Food in Island Beekeeper is not optional decoration — hunger drains during farming, building, and exploration. Raw berries keep you alive early, but cooked meals restore more hunger, satisfy Earth orders, and turn surplus honey into valuable products.

Tea vs Kitchen Food

Tea is brewed from tea leaves in a barrel (fixed and buffed in 1.01.1) and is primarily a cold resistance tool, not a full meal. Keep kitchen cooking for hunger; keep tea for snow and wind routes. Full steps: Potions & Tea.

Fish from the Fishing loop pairs well with bread and berries once the Fish Shelf is stocked (shelf placement fixed in 1.01.2).

Cooked Fish (1.01.5)

Patch 1.01.5 finally lets you cook fish at the kitchen. Raw catches from fishing still fill a little hunger; a cooked fillet or stew restores more and can fill Earth food orders. If a fish recipe stayed grey after the Island Traders pass, update and reopen the kitchen book — the July 29 kitchen-recipe pass plus 1.01.5 is the current baseline.

Why Cooking Matters

Three systems push you toward the kitchen:

• Survival — Hunger depletes faster when you sprint, climb, or work long sessions. See the Survival Guide for meter details.
• Orders — Earth buyers sometimes request baked goods, not just honey jars. A fresh cookie delivery can unlock reputation ranks faster than shipping raw crops alone.
• Honey economy — Jars tied up in mead or sandwiches are jars not sitting in storage — but the hunger payoff and order variety usually justify the trade.

Plan cooking around your honey extractor rhythm: pull frames, fill jars, then route some jars to the kitchen instead of the post station.

Glass is easy to overlook. Mead needs two glass per batch alongside a honey jar. Gather sand from shoreline deposits or trade routes before your first brewing session.

Honey Sandwich

• Ingredients: 1 bread + 1 honey jar
• Best for: Mid-game hunger recovery when berry snacking is not enough
• Tip: Bake bread in batches when grain harvests peak so you always have sandwiches ready before long Medocycle trips

Mead

• Ingredients: 1 honey jar + 2 glass
• Best for: Converting excess honey into a storable beverage; useful before multi-day exploration
• Tip: Confirm whether the recipe consumes the jar itself — plan extra jar crafting at the workbench

Bread

• Ingredients: Flour/grain chain (see Crafting Recipes)
• Best for: Foundation for sandwiches and higher-tier meals
• Tip: Wheat plots near water and a watering can produce steady flour input

Cookies (Order Delivery)

• Ingredients: Cocoa, butter, flour (exact ratios in the crafting reference)
• Best for: Specific Earth orders requesting baked goods
• Tip: Accept the order first, then cook — timed deliveries punish poor planning

Kitchen Setup Progression

1. Campfire stage — Basic heating and early water purification overlap with survival needs.
2. Workbench unlock — Bread and jar crafting chain begins here.
3. Kitchen station — Advanced recipes (mead, sandwiches, cookies) typically require a dedicated kitchen build piece.
4. Storage nearby — Keep honey jars, glass, and grain within reach of the kitchen to avoid inventory juggling.

Place the kitchen close to your hive row and garden. The less walking between extractor, pantry, and stove, the more likely you cook instead of eating raw berries out of desperation.

Cooking and Co-op

In local co-op, assign one player as chef during busy harvest days:

• Player 1 runs the extractor and smoker
• Player 2 bakes bread and sandwiches
• Player 3 explores or fulfills orders

Shared hunger means shared responsibility — if one player starves during a build session, everyone feels the pace drop.
